GameSpot and Yahoo Teaming Up

GameSpot and Yahoo have announced plans of teaming up in early 2005. It looks as if Yahoo’s game department wants to add a little more meat and potatoes to the mix. Now Yahoo Games has never really been a mover and shaker in the video game news world. On the other hand GameSpot has become my favorite place to read about video game reviews, previews and so much more.
In the long run this should be a good thing. I mean, how could you not like the effects of adding good solid gaming goodness to a Web site?
The Web’s leading online games site today announced that GameSpot content will supply Yahoo! Games users with the latest game news, reviews, and previews. Yahoo! visitors will also have access to GameSpot DLX’s downloadable files such as demos, trailers, and screenshots. Yahoo! Games will showcase GameSpot content beginning in early 2005.
Yahoo! Games also announced the hiring of Patrick Ford and Thom Kozik, both from All-Seeing Eye. Inc. Ford will serve as director of video games products and Kozik will head business development. The deal will also integrate the eponymous game browser from All-Seeing Eye. All-Seeing Eye allows gamers to save buddy lists and to connect with each other when playing online multiplayer games.
As you can see there is a lot to get excited about here. I just hope all goes as planned. Yahoo Games has also said, “updating its software development kit for publishers to use the new features of Yahoo! Games, such as Yahoo! Messenger integration and player matching.” My mind is going bonkers over the possibilities, lets just hope they don’t screw it up.
