Sony Answers Defective Demo Discs Problems

A few weeks ago I wrote up an article here on Lockergnome about the problems with the Playstation 2 Holiday 2004 demo disk.

It has just been brought to our attention that there is a glitch in this demo which will erase all of your saved files from your Memory Card(s). If you have not yet played the Viewtiful Joe 2 demo, please remove your Memory Card(s) from your PlayStation(R) 2 computer entertainment system before you load the Holiday 2004 Demo Disc.

Now Sony has finally done something to tackle the problem this caused many folks. The folks over at EuroGamer.net posted an article about what Sony is doing to correct themselves:

When it emerged that the disc destroyed save data, SCEA issued an apology and advised users not to play the demos with a Memory Card inserted. However now it seems that the higher-ups have decided to distribute free games as well in an act of goodwill to the consumer.

The list of games covers a number of genres, and some of the games are distinctly new. The full list comprises Athens 2004, ATV Offroad Fury 3, Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec, Hot Shots Golf Fore!, MLB 2004, Parappa the Rapper 2, Sly 2: Band of Thieves and Wild Arms 3.

To claim your free game, all you need to do is call SCEA (1-800-345-7669), who will then supply an address to send the disc to. It is nice to see Sony taking steps to make sure a few more folks have a happy holiday season.
