Valve Cracks Down On Half-Life 2 CD Hacks

Boy, the gaming world is just full of all sorts of crazy stuff today, it seems. The Industry Standard reports that Valve is really cracking down on people using Half-Life 2 CD hacks.
Sure, much like music sharing, it may seem harmless. But rest assured that you will eventually be asked to pay the piper. Best advice is not to do it at all.
Valve Corp. has reportedly been cracking down on those who have downloaded illegal copies of the game or those who’ve tried to bypass Steam with a CD key–allegedly banning up to 20,000 users from playing the critically acclaimed PC shooter. “The number of people who actually had bought HL2 and used the CD key cheat was very small. Very small. Most people just tried to rip off the game and not bother buying it,” said a Valve spokesperson.
The company’s heavy-handed approach has been understandable–piracy has plagued the PC industry for years, with games being available within days before or after release. Valve also suffered a blow with the source code leak last year, forcing the company to delay the game by a year.

I will NEVER buy another Steam game again. In fact, I have no moral problem getting one for free off bit torrent - I have spent hours trying to get THE GAME I PAID FOR, REGISTERED LEGALLY, AND PUT ON MY COMPUTER to play. After getting through half the game, Steam started to come on insisting that I check out their website. Going into offline mode worked, and then my “logon” information suddenly disappeared - no particular reason. It won’t work in offline mode unless you have a logon. I tried re-submitting my password, and now it says they’re waiting to “approve my purchase”!
I have VERY limited time - I bought the game for my birthday in May, and was only able to install it in October. I look forward to playing it after my stressful days, and now it’s causing me more stress due to their insane protection schemes. Since when do I have prove, over and over again, that it’s MY game?
Steam can go take a flying f***. I wish I could sue them for the hassle they’ve caused me. Games are supposed to be escapism, not more problems.

I played counter strike 1.4, 5 and 6, got source when it first came out, played it for 5 minutes, the hit-boxes are terrible, and steam couldn’t get more annoying, its a disasterous program and yet the legacy continues. Hl2 is a great game, don’t get me wrong, but if valve is going to try and govern “steam” in general, they will only succeed in spending more money, and spending more time that they could be using to release something even better, with an initial security check so they don’t have to go backtracking the hackers who now seem smarter than themselves, until the people who hacked the game get continuously shot in the head by yet another hacker. To valve, your on top of the gaming food chain if you wish to stay there remember your roots, these people arent your fans, their fans of the game, the game you made in the 90’s that ran on just about anything with a hard drive and a stick, now its so dreadfully complex i’d rather play 1.6 with the hackers that still play your secure game 24/7 with the people who did buy your game legally. It smells like shit in here, buullllshhhiitttt, and I think I know who dropped the deuce.
