Highlander Video Game For SCi

With the 20th anniversary of the Highlander series, U.K. publisher SCi announced they would be creating a video game counterpart based on classic movie series. SCi has gotten the rights to produce games based on the Highlander movies and television show series.
For those of you who do not remember the movies, the basic plot is an immortal Scottish swordsman must confront the last of his immortal opponent, a murderously brutal barbarian who lusts for the fabled “Prize”. There are many different ways they could go with this project and I hope that the end result is a great game to play. The Highlander fan base is pretty large as well with both fans of the movie and the syndicated television show. This should lead to great anticipation for the weeks and months to come.
It has to beat me running around the house in a bath towel kilt yelling, “There can be only one!” but then again, I don’t think it would take much to beat that.

I look forward to a Highlander game. They could go many ways on the project, but I am afraid I see so many complications with the graphics, dynamics (especially regarding the fights and storyline/dynamic world), so forth that it will be interesting to see how they overcome these issues. I hope they stay away from the static/forced storylines that you must follow as many games do, and provide a more dynamic world (maybe even internet capable). I am afraid the results of building a game with the complexity of a Highlander world, will most likely not live up to fans expectations. But we will see. Best of luck.

I finally think it’s about time that they came out with a Highlander game. Long overdue for a 5th generation console such as the Xbox or PS3. A cool factor would be to be able to create and design your own Immortal and their sword style so that everyone can compete for the prize in their own way. It could make for a very impressive RPG. Even if you were to stick to a “forced story line”, it wouldn’t be so bad if you were the immortal taking heads instead of a pre-meditated character doing it for you. Even if the game receives bad reviews, I will still buy it merely for it’s Staple value. Can’t wait.

In the Feb issue of Game Informer magazine page 88 they have pictures and a review of the new Highlander video game slotted to be released in may of this year… They say that you will have flash backs to play through, and with you being immortal you don’t have a health bar or hitpoints, you have stamina which wears down, and when it reaches it’s end you stumble of exhaustion and maybe that is when your enemies take your head… Unfortunately you cannot create your own immortal, you go through as immortal Owen MacLeod, not even any relation to Connor or Duncan, you are actally adopted by the clan MacLeod after fighting a major battle with them, you serve your first death on the doomed island paradise of Pompei, thousands of years before Connor is even brought into the world… Now you have a boss bad guy in the near future that is almost as hardcore as The Kurgan from what the review says… The game play mechanics are crossed between God of War and Devil May Cry, Unfortunaltely I am not into that kind of button masher game, but I would get the game and try it out because of the Highlander name…
