Wizards of the Coast has decided to run a series of “I told you so” type ads in the latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly which imply that Dungeons & Dragons is responsible for every video game standard and cliche that exists. The ad spans three pages with the following bold claims:
- We made the first level.
- We gave boss monsters their first job.
- We invented godmode.
Wizards of the Coast is the company that invented the card game Magic. Magic, of course, based 90% of its game and characters on these concepts introduced by Dungeons & Dragons. This was before Wizards of the Coast bought out TSR (the original makers of Dungeons & Dragons) which was before TSR went through a hostile takeover and Gary Gygax, the game’s true creator, was forced out of the company.
However, to get back to the topic, Wizards of the Coast started it all! This is a red letter day for integrity.
