Lionhead Studio’s most recent game, Fable, sucked hours and hours away from my life this last week as I sat with my eyes glued to my TV screen, in awe of this fantastic game. I have now placed Fable squarely in the position of my “favorite Xbox game.” I’ve played through it twice now, trying to experience everything it has to offer. However, like the sadness one feels when finishing a great novel, I felt kind of empty when I finally played the game to completion. Sure, I could still run around as an absurdly powerful character and dispatch bandits or slaughter entire towns of innocent peasants, but without new quests or side quests, the game lost its splendor.

Luckily, a colleague of mine forwarded me a link to a blog article detailing an interesting turn of events within the Fable universe. When you finish the game and talk to a bard, eventually the bard will tell you that he’s out of ideas and you simply need to find a better bard. Well, now the better bard may have surfaced on the official Xbox forums. A user named “Better Bard” appeared in the forums and began posting riddle like clues, in a witty rhyming format, detailing the possibility of extra quests and areas within Fable. While this “Better Bard” may be an elaborate hoax, his posts have yet to be removed and are quite convincing. The clues themselves seem quite vague and I have yet to find anyone who has fully deciphered them. Regardless, I’m extremely excited about the prospect of new content and more adventures to experience! The bard also makes mention of a 1.5 patch that may be downloadable via Xbox Live, which is interesting since Fable seems to have no Live features other than being “Live Aware” (which is a fancy way of saying that it will tell you when your friends log on). Whether this is a hoax or a reality, one thing is for certain: I’m one gamer that’s in love with Fable and I’m very eager to play any extra content, if there truly is extra content within the game. Otherwise, I’m going to continue to play Fable, trying to find all these secrets in some kind of sad, wild goose chase. Either way, I’ll probably still have a lot of fun!
