In a move that is guaranteed to elicit many utterings of the term “sell out”, The Black Eyed Peas have re-recorded vocal tracks to nine songs from their upcoming album to be featured on the new Sims game The Urbz: Sims in the City. Simlish, for those of you who haven’t wasted hours of your life playing The Sims, is the made up language that your characters use in the games. A player’s Sims communicate with other Sims (and with the player) using this sort of gibberish. When your Sim has to use the toilet he/she will wave at the screen and say: “Glope Ta DA!” The urgent inflection lets the player know that your Sim requires attention while the player’s life goes down the tubes.
Since the new Black Eyed Peas album, Monkey Business, isn’t due out until December this will give gamers at least two months to learn the Simlish lyrics and will guarantee that no player of The Urbz: Sims in the City will ever take the new Black Eyed Peas album seriously. Yay for cross-marketing!
