Dreamcast fans never say die

A post on Slashdot today brought news that fans of the Dreamcast, that lovable last-ditch effort on Sega’s part to remain relevant to console manufacturing, are still coding software for it. Emulation is the order of the day; clever programmers have ported emulators for the Saturn, Game Boy Advance and Nintendo 64 for use on Dreamcasts.
Now, obviously I’m not the sort of gigantic nerd who finds Slashdot relevant to his daily life, but it strikes me that there’s not much in the way of point to using an emulator for one console on another console. Perhaps they do it for the malevolent joy of playing Nintendo games on a Sega system, as they snigger and rub their hands with glee. Or then again they could just do it for the challenge. After all, why climb Everest? Why explore the deepest oceanic trenches? Why anything? Hey, I’ve got an idea. When you’re finished porting your N64 emulator for the Dreamcast, try doing it again with one hand tied behind your back and your head stuck in a bucket of exciteable kittens.
