School Reconsiders the Michael Sheridan Suspension

It seems that in the light of press publicity, the New Haven school officials have had a change of heart regarding Michael Sheridan. This was the student who was suspended for buying Skittles candy from another student. Michael will have his record cleared:

“NEW HAVEN, Conn. — An eighth-grade honors student who was suspended for a day, barred from attending an honors dinner and stripped of his title as class vice president after he was caught with contraband candy in school will get his student council post back, school officials said.”

It is amazing how the exercise of authority becomes ameliorated in the glare of national / international press publicity. One wonders what the consequences would have been if press agencies like Associated Press had not picked up the incident.

Michael Sheridan, Skittles Candy, and School Suspension

New Haven, Connecticut is not a place to buy candy from a fellow student. Even if one is a good student, buying candy can lead to a school suspension and having one’s name splashed across the news pages:

“NEW HAVEN, Connecticut (AP) — Contraband candy has led to big trouble for an eighth-grade honors student in Connecticut.

Michael Sheridan was stripped of his title as class vice president, barred from attending an honors student dinner and suspended for a day after buying a bag of Skittles from a classmate.”

Let this be a lesson to you, Michael. Surely you must have be given the school district policy manual, reviewed all important school district procedures and read all the fine print. Perhaps now your name will be on national / international security data bases. Try explaining this when you need to go through security and try to board an aircraft. Where is the Skittles legal team when you need them?
