It seems that in the light of press publicity, the New Haven school officials have had a change of heart regarding Michael Sheridan. This was the student who was suspended for buying Skittles candy from another student. Michael will have his record cleared:
“NEW HAVEN, Conn. — An eighth-grade honors student who was suspended for a day, barred from attending an honors dinner and stripped of his title as class vice president after he was caught with contraband candy in school will get his student council post back, school officials said.”

It is amazing how the exercise of authority becomes ameliorated in the glare of national / international press publicity. One wonders what the consequences would have been if press agencies like Associated Press had not picked up the incident.
