Flu Vaccine and Sports

At the moment, some Olympic athletes are being given the discretion of whether to have the flu shot or not. That stance may be re-examined in light of the tragedy of a young thirteen year old hockey player from Toronto:

“… Evan Frustaglio began developing flu-like symptoms during a hockey tournament in London, Ont., over the weekend, said his father, Paul Frustaglio. After returning to Toronto early Sunday, his parents took him to a local walk-in clinic, where he was examined and sent home.

“The physician listened to his lungs and assured us that everything is fine, he is breathing normally,” Paul Frustaglio told CBC News. “Less than 24 hours later, my son was gone. That’s all I know.”"

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has a fairly comprehensive web site focused on the H1N1 flu. It is a good resource if there is a personal decision about whether or not to have the vaccination.

Let’s see now. I’m in robust health. I rarely, if ever, get sick (which is probably a good thing, considering I’m the biggest baby imaginable, when I am sick). I DO NOT trust the feds, and I don’t not intend to waste $25 to be injected with God knows what experimental government bioweapon and/or tracking device.
