Senator John McCain Moves to Block Net Neutrality

If Senator McCain is successful, there will be an impact on every American internet user. Senator McCain would like to prohibit the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) from regulating the internet and protecting the internet user.
Under Senator McCain’s bill, net neutrality would be gone. The internet provider would be able to discriminate traffic. At the internet providers’ discretion, traffic can be throttled. If the user wants better service, the solution is simple - pay more.
“… McCain, an Arizona Republican, called the proposed net neutrality rules a “government takeover” of the Internet that will stifle innovation and depress an “already anemic” job market in the U.S. McCain was the Republican challenger to President Barack Obama in the 2008 election, and Obama has said net neutrality rules are among his top tech priorities.”

Certainly internet providers welcome Senator McCain’s legislation. It means increased revenue. However, for the average user, it means that if you want top level service online, it will cost more. This is not a piece of legislation that favours the consumer and it is deceiving if it is position as preventing further government regulations. It is a step in removing consumer protection and allowing the internet providers to have tiers of service - and tiers of charges.

McCain doesn’t even know how to use a computer… what the hell does he know?
Sorry, I am not on the ISP’s side on this one. We have given them billions to build their networks and they are profiting from it. Now they want to control the traffic? Screw them.

John McCain can’t seem to get clear what the tenets of his party are all about…and he appears to be fully in the pocket of AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and any other company stepping up with some money. {see my take on it here: http://www.lockergnome.com/theoracle/2009/10/22/stick-a-fork-in-him-%E2%80%93-hes-done/ }
It must take scads of money to get maverick-y.

Government regulation historically has easily led to more and more problems so i can see where he is coming from. If there is a way to screw something completely up, favor one group over another, and leave tax payers footing the bill for tons of useless government jobs, it’s tons of regulation where none is needed.
All we need is a few laws on the books keeping ISPs from discriminating based on the type of traffic. Someone complains, THEN the law enforcement looks into in. We don’t need a regulatory body overseeing everything ISPs do and how they charge.
