In a way, this is creative - and diabolical. It takes advantage of people’s routine to be secure and to update. However, it is a malware trap:
“Analysts at Websense Security Labs have detected a wave of attacks directed at people who use Microsoft’s Outlook Web Access.
The web security company said on Wednesday that it has seen upwards of 30,000 emails an hour directing users of the web-based email software to click on a link to update their mailbox settings as part of a ’security upgrade’. In fact, the link takes them to a site that contains malware.”

The irony becomes that one has to check for ‘the security of security updates’. This is a good time to check that you have updated your security software to the latest definitions and that indeed your security applications are running in the background as you are reading this. If that last suggestion causes any confusion, you have some work to do in making your computer safe.
