Privacy and Security in Hotels

Following the videotaping crime involving Erin Andrews, there has been a focus on privacy and security in hotels. Some people, like athletes, are regular travelers and have their trip noted publicly, in the media. For example, it is well known when your favorite team is gone for an ‘away’ game and in which city. From there, it is easy to track the venue where they are staying. Most likely, that hotel facility will be used again when the team is again in that particular city.

This makes such travelers easy targets.

There are some steps that all travelers should keep in mind:

“… Desk clerks should never say your room number aloud when you check in. The number should be written on the card key sleeve and discreetly handed to you. You have every right to ask for a different room if the room number is announced…”

Security people point out that travelers are out of their normal routine. Some victims will find it difficult to pursue a crime committed upon them in a different city. Such factors give even more advantage to the criminal.
