Viking Fans Cheer Brett Favre and Owe Applause for Dr. Andrews

It was compelling television. Brett Favre against his former Green Bay Packers could have been a disaster. Instead, “there was no joy in Cheeseland” and the headlines reflected that. And no matter if one is a Packers fan, a Vikings fan or a teenager many years away from an AARP card, there has to be some admiration of an almost-forty year old athlete performing at the highest professional level.
While Viking fans cheer Brett Favre (and exhale collectively with relief), there should be applause for Dr. James Andrews, the famed surgeon:
“… Dr. James Andrews performed surgery on his biceps in May, cutting the partially torn tendon to alleviate the pain that caused Favre, whose birthday is Saturday, to (temporarily) retire for a second consecutive season last spring.
It’s a procedure that’s growing in popularity and allowing older athletes to extend their careers, according to Dr. Anthony Romeo, section head of shoulder and elbow surgery at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.
“Not only do they do well,” Romeo said, “but they get better faster.”"

There may be a limited number of quality throws left in that repaired arm. The Vikings coaching staff are well aware of that. They are limiting the number of throws that Brett Favre makes on a daily basis. It is much like how professional baseball has a ‘pitch count’ for its pitchers to protect their arms.
And undoubtedly, the Vikings coaches and trainers have Dr. Andrews’ phone number on speed dial, just in case.

Awesome game for him, got his revenge, his record and whatnot. But still the Packers don’t want him back and will move on without him.
