The Death of Patrick Swayze Exploited by Criminals

With striking predictability, criminals are exploiting the death of Patrick Swayze to deliver malware. The hackers are aware that this is a news item that people online will search and hackers are prepare to exploit this interest:

“… just as web miscreants have recently used immense interest in the deaths of Michael Jackson, Farah Fawcett and Natasha Richardson to lead people to virus-laced web pages, Swayze’s death has led to an avalanche of bogus websites purporting to provide information about his death.”

It is not only rogue websites that are delivering malware. As recently noted on these pages, The New York Times website was compromised. It becomes imperative to have your security programs running and updated to the latest security definitions.

And finally, if there is a pop-up screen that says that you have a computer infection, do not buy the program that is offered. No legitimate security company would do business like that. If you are tempted to buy via that pop-up screen, simply open a window and toss out your money. At least then, you will not be funding computer hackers.
