An Increase in the Cost of Checked Luggage
Travel will be more expensive soon if you have anything other than carry-on luggage. American Airlines has announced an increase in the fees for checked luggage:
“…American said Friday that checking the first bag will cost $20, up from $15, and a second bag will cost $30, up from $25.”

With this increase, other air carriers undoubtedly will follow this example. It means added revenue and it will be excused by cost of fuel, the poor economy and other such reasons. More and more though, travellers will fly only when it is absolutely necessary. And, in the end, service charges such as these luggage fees may be costly the airlines. The travelling customer does have a limit.

It’s unfortunate, but they will push that “limit” to the extent of the travelers elasticity of demand. I don’t mind extra fees if they are put with a cheap ticket price (often not the case). Gives passengers more choice.

I think this will be the last I travel for awhile . I have to pay for the first and second bag and the airlines and still cutting back on what they do for the passenger. I believe this should be taken off the ticket. I remember when it was nice to fly your got something to eat and watched TV now they charge for earphones for movies charge for baggage and no food and gas prices are going down, so why they charging for everything .Don’t they know the more they charge for things and other changes people are not going to want to travel by air. So you make the people mad is that going to make us travel more I don’t think so.
