The golf course at Turnberry was once a airfield during wartime. The closeness of the sea gives breath-taking views and shifting wind conditions. Landing a ball in the rough may mean that it is lost. This was the course that has forced Tiger Woods to miss a cut at the British Open. This is the course that has another American professional golfer leading, after the third round.

The golfer is Tom Watson. He is in the lead with a four under 206, after three rounds. Tom Watson is fifty nine. He will turn sixty on September 4th.

Tom Watson has won the British Open previously, in 1983. He also won in 1982, 1980, 1977 and 1975. Tom Watson knows ‘links golf’. Tom Watson is at Turnberry to compete.
