Steve McNair Responded to Hurricane Katrina
Steve McNair was a young man. He was only thirty six. There are ghastly reports of his shooting death in Nashville. People will remember Steve McNair for what he did on the football field during his thirteen year professional career.
However there was more. When the devastation of Hurricane Katrina happened, Steve McNair was one of the people who responded:
“…By the end of McNair’s effort, 20 tractor-trailers had been filled with supplies. More than 800 volunteers helped out, and children brought their piggy banks. Fundraising efforts brought in more than $300,000.”

Needless to say that now Steve McNair will come under the scrutiny of the media. There will be a diligent search for any salacious detail and it will be a story that dominates on the front pages, as well as on the sports news. Perhaps the media should remember that when the victims of Hurricane Katrina were in need, Steve McNair helped.

[...] Steve McNair wasn’t just a quarterback – he was also a humanitarian. [...]

It’s nice to see this especially when the media does tend to look for the bad when deaths of this kind occur.

What’s so surprising is that people are making such a big deal out of his “other side” . Anyone who knows sports knows that athletes like rock/rap stars have lots of groupies. The temptations are there making it not uncommon for athletes to be unfaithfull. My opinion is that the wives who stick around know what they are getting themselves into. It doesn’t surprise me one bit that he may have had a girlfriend but I also don’t feel like he’s a bad guy for having one. It happens and people need stop acting as if it doesn’t exist. Open up your eyes. The world is full of temptations and no one is exempt.

You are totally right. I can remember watching on SportsCenter whenever hurrican Katrina hit New Orleanes, and they had a special report on Steve McNair specifically. It was amazing the help that he gave to the victims…
