Dogs Serving in Theatres of War

Veterans should receive the appreciation of a grateful nation. This extends to the four legged, canine veterans who stand in Harm’s Way:
“…In Iraq and Afghanistan, “they’re finding ammunition,” he said. “They’re finding weapons — AK-47s and caches and a lot of unexploded ordnance. . . . They’re invaluable.”"

Some of these dogs do repeated tours of duty. There is no complaint; of course, it is their unspoken covenant with humans to serve and to be companions. It is incumbent upon us that these dogs receive the best available care and are honoured upon their return from military operations. It is the least that we can do for those who serve.

I heard a story that they tried to use Dobermans in the second world war but they were too intelligent! They learnt that loud bangs meant danger so, as soon as they heard gunfire they would lay down and “play dead” thus making them useless for any tasks on the front line.
They eventually had to find a less intelligent breed and ened up with german shepherd dogs!!
