Celtics Face Injuries and Consequences

The most valuable member of the Boston Celtic may be the team doctor. Five of the Celtics will be on the sidelines for the Wednesday game against the Miami Heat:

“…Coach Doc Rivers on Monday ruled out Rajon Rondo and Glen “Big Baby” Davis after both sprained their right ankles over the weekend. Rondo was hurt in Friday’s 105-94 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers and Davis in Sunday’s 86-79 loss to the Orlando Magic.

They join superstar Kevin Garnett, Brian Scalabrine and Tony Allen on the sidelines…”

The obvious consequence is that the healthy members of the team will play some extra minutes as the playoffs approach. When the injuries allow, the Celtics will have some rested, key members returning for the post season play.

Because of injuries, the Celtics may not have home court advantage during the playoffs. The Cleveland Cavaliers may claim that advantage. Further, it may mean that the Celtics may have an early post season date with the Orlando Magic. Until the injuries mend, the Celtics need to avoid losses and put some wins together. The wins will give them some momentum through the post season play. Even with all the injuries, the road to the next NBA championship still goes through Boston.
