The legal problems for the Peanut Corporation of America are monumental. There are lawsuits, along with criminal investigations into the criminal aspects of allegedly releasing contaminated products for human consumption. As the peanut scandal continues to unfold, the peanut company has sought bankruptcy protection:
“…”Given that (Peanut Corp.) is under criminal investigation, I’m not surprised they’ve gone bankrupt,” said Bill Marler, a Seattle lawyer representing 47 clients who are suing the company, including relatives of two people who died after reportedly consuming peanut products tainted with salmonella.”

The allegations are that the company executives released the products, even with the knowledge the product was tainted. If indeed this proves to be the case, are the financial profits of the company not ill-gotten gains? It seems farcical that a company is seeking bankruptcy protection in an attempt to circumvent consequences of alleged serious criminal behaviour.
