Facebook with Old and New Competition

The social networking niche has been dominated by Facebook and MySpace. Now it appears that Facebook is surging:

“…according to a new data report from comScore Facebook drew more than 200,000 unique visitors in the month of December compared to Myspace’s number, just over 100,000. Just six months ago Facebook and Myspace were tied around 100,000 visitors, but Facebook’s numbers shot up at a rate of 10.8 percent per month on the global scale while Myspace stayed stagnant.”

Facebook, at the moment, may be winning in its competition with MySpace. However, there is serious, 140-character-at-a-time competitor what may draw away some of the Facebook audience. Twitter, the micro-blogging platform, is offing the social networking audience a serious alternative.

I think twitter and facebook will become more popular due to the fact that they are more user friendly to novice computer users that have no knowledge of HTML and CSS.

Both Twitter and Facebook have no real business plan and it seems to me their popularity is only due to the “me too” factor. Word spread the one or the other is the now “popular” application and everyone runs to join. When the novelty and usefullness grow dim, folks run to the next “me too” program

I think that new properties like lymabean.com that are truly new media are going to begin changing the landscape and challenging the old school sites like myspace and facebook in a big way soon
