eBay Sales Figures Decline

This is not news to eBay sellers. They know that merchandise has not been selling as quickly. Now, the eBay sales figures have confirmed the decline:

“EBay got coal in its stocking this holiday season as shoppers spent less money at eBay’s online marketplaces. It was the first time that sales in the fourth quarter, traditionally eBay’s strongest quarter, had fallen compared with the prior year.

Fourth-quarter profit plunged 31 percent to $367 million compared with a year ago, but eBay met analysts’ expectations for earnings per share by heavily cutting costs.”

The poor economy has impacted upon eBay. There are now more offers of free shipment and auctions that draw little interest. As a result, there are indeed bargains on the internet auction site. Unfortunately, so many consumers are not in a position to take advantage of these opportunities.
