JetBlue Welcomes Dog Passengers

There are some air carriers, like Air Canada, that are no longer taking pets in the baggage compartment. Air Canada set this pet policy in June of 2007. JetBlue, however, is welcoming pets with JetPaws, a pet travel program:

“…”With more than 80,000 pets traveling on JetBlue each year, the JetPaws program is designed to make with pets smooth from start to finish,” said Kim Ruvolo, JetBlue’s brand manager. “We know that our customers are passionate about their pets and very emotionally connected to them so this program ensures that our customer service extends to our four-legged customers too.”

For $100 each way, regardless of the travel route, the low-cost carrier welcomes up to four pets in the cabin per flight.”

This is astute marketing on the part of JetBlue. Just on the projected revenue from pets, that is a cash flow of approximately eight million dollars. It is also a clever way to connect this the pet-owner passengers. When JetBlue treats the pet well, the air carrier has made huge strides in developing customer loyalty. JetBlue is assuaging those customer relationships while increasing profits. Kudos to JetBlue!

[...] JetBlue is welcoming canine passengers. [...]

It’s nice that JetBlue is doing this, but I don’t think any of my Great Danes or Coonhounds are going to fit in that little bitty bag.

Since I do dog rescue, I’m involved in shipping dogs around the country from time to time. The ONLY airline I’ll deal with is Continental. They have by far the safest and most comfortable arrangements for pets shipped as cargo. The one with the worst record in the rescue community is Delta, which has been responsible for the death of a number of rescue dogs.
