That makes five. Earlier in the week, Randy Wittman was fired by the Minnesota Timberwolves. Today, the Philadelphia NBA franchise fired Maurice Cheeks:
“Philadelphia’s Maurice Cheeks saw the writing on the wall 10 days ago, when Sam Mitchell of Toronto became the third coach to be fired in the first five weeks of the NBA season.”

There was a pregame incident that endeared Maurice Cheeks to sports fans. During the pregame national anthem, Natalie Gilbert, a young thirteen year old forgot the words to the song. It could have been humiliating but Maurice Cheeks saved the moment.
That showed exceptional presence of mind and grace. It was just Maurice Cheeks giving an assist - and it is a sports moment that fans will not forget. And whatever lies ahead for Maurice Cheeks, that moment of kindness to a young girl speaks volumes.
