The BBC Will Drop Crufts

It is tradition. For many people in the United Kingdom, the Crufts dog show is ‘must viewing’. Unfortunately, the BBC will no longer be broadcasting the show next year:
“…The Kennel Club, which runs Crufts, said the decision followed “disputes” over the inclusion of certain breeds of pedigree dog in the competition.
The club complained to Ofcom after a BBC investigation earlier this year found dogs on show suffer from genetic diseases following years of inbreeding.”

It is unfortunate that the BBC decided to dictate the content of the venue and have some dog breeds excluded. The issues that the BBC has with certain practices among breeders would exclude all competitors that owned that particular breed of dog. It is a position that the Kennel Club would reject. The BBC proposal would have been so unfair to a vast majority of the Kennel Club members.
