The Cold Virus and Your Mom Was Right

Some people resign themselves to the inevitability of catching a cold (or many colds) during this winter season. There is something that you can do to lower your chances of catching a cold germ. The first thing to remember is that there are so many contaminated surfaces that expose you to germs. That virus lives on so many surfaces and become transferred to your hands with just brief contact.

There are two things that you can do:

  • wash your hands often with soap
  • keep your hand from your face.

Note how often your hands goes to your face. This is germ transfer. So your mother was correct - handwashing helps and keep your hands away from your face. As for kissing that sick child or significant other who has a cold… you’re on your own.
