Day Cares Struggle to Stay Open

The economic crisis is making it difficult for some day cares to stay open. There is serious consideration that some of the state subsidized day cares may be shuttered because the funds are not available:

“The budget crisis in Illinois is making it hard for some day care facilities to stay open.

The state is behind in paying many bills, including thousands of dollars some local child care operators count on to keep running.

State Comptroller Dan Hynes says the state is behind on nearly $4 billion worth of bills.”

Employees are not being paid. The mortgages are not being paid. And parents soon may not have the support of the day care to look after the children. Then, in a stumbling economy, work is endangered. It is dire.
