Southwest Airlines Goes Against the Trend with Bargains

The rising prices of air travel has seen added expenses for checked luggage and other amenities. Fares have increased continually in an attempt to maintain profitability for airlines. It is a pleasant surprise then to see one airlines go against the trend of searching for ways to extract every possible dollar from the air traveller. Southwest Airlines is offering travel sales:

“Southwest Airlines launched its first major fare sale in five months, slashing one-way prices as low as $49 on tickets that include flights during the holidays.

The Dallas-based airline announced the three-day sale Tuesday morning, for flights between Dec. 2 and Feb. 11, which must be purchased 21 days in advance.”

This is not the first time that Southwest Airlines has gone against the industry’s trends. In August 2008, Southwest Airlines eliminated flights in an effort to retain staff. The current travel sale may appear to be bound in restrictions. Nevertheless, it is pressure on its competitors to follow. Kudos to Southwest Airlines.
