Microsoft and Yahoo Collaborate on Security

In spite of past and possible future acquisition attempts, Microsoft and Yahoo can work together. They are involved in a united security effort:
“Microsoft and Yahoo have teamed up with Western Union and the African Development Bank to combat the nuisance of hoax lottery emails.
Such scams, which invite victims to send a fee in return for a fictitious gift or cash prize, have become increasingly prevalent.”

It would seem that a collaborative effort such as this should involve all the major online entities, not just Microsoft and Yahoo. Such collaboration among competitors is difficult to achieve, even if it is for the benefit of the people who support their service.
