It may be the new economic perspective. A loss in the millions used to be devastating. Now it is the cause of optimism. At least that is the case with US Airways:
“…In a memo urging employees to keep the airline’s $865 million net loss in perspective, he said, “The world no longer looks anything like the one we lived in during July, August and September.”
The airline also has a bigger cash cushion than it did then, thanks to $950 million in new financing, mostly from suppliers such as credit-card company Barclays, announced Thursday.”

It may be old fashioned to think that a $865 million loss is a crippling blow. Perhaps it is the optimism in the face of stark realities that help precipitate this present economic crisis.
