Pet Owners to Receive Millions in Contaminated Food Scandal

Thousands of household pets were sick or died from contaminated pet food. The chemical melamine was found in pet food ingredients from China. This is the same chemical that is implicated in the contaminated milk recall that is ongoing currently in China. There has been a court ruling on the lawsuits for the tainted pet food:

“Thousands of Canadian and U.S. pet owners whose dogs and cats died last year after eating pet food contaminated by a Chinese ingredient may be close to receiving a $32-million US settlement.

A federal judge in Camden, N.J., was to hear oral arguments on the final settlement proposal Tuesday. The court also will consider any filed objections.”

It was a costly mistake on the part of the pet food manufacturers. Some pet owners remain sceptical that there are sufficient quality controls in place, even now, to safeguard the quality of the pet food. The contaminated milk recall in China shows that contaminated export products from China remains a serious issue.
