Ratchet Has Friends - And Is Coming Home

There is good news for Ratchet and Gwen Beberg. The military, which previously had prevented Ratchet from being evacuated out of Iraq, has relented. Ratchet soon will be on American soil:
“A stray puppy befriended by a US soldier in Iraq has received the green light to move to America to be reunited with his owner.
A rescue operation to fly Ratchet the dog out of Baghdad failed today, however, partly because of a lack of communication between a pet rescue group and the military. The pet is now set to leave as early as Sunday.”

Let me add a personal observation. The American people are unfailingly kind and generous as far as their pets are concerned. As one who follows ‘dog news’, the dog people are a powerful demographic. Whether it be a story such as Ratchet’s homecoming to the United States, contesting dogs in gambling operations or the threat of contaminated dog food, the love of pets crosses all borders of race, gender, social economic status, religion, location - or whatever category. Americans will stand up for dogs. It is as simple as that. There is absolutely no question about that love and loyalty. And any person or organization that challenges that affection for animals is in for a fierce fight. It is a powerfully strong loyal demographic. - And to Ratchet’s friends - ‘thank you’!
