Warning Labels on Cold Medication

It is a small concession from the drug industry. The drug manufacturers are acknowledging that children under that age of four should not be given cold medication:

“…The drug makers said they will also add a warning that parents should not give antihistamines to children to make them sleepy. These are allergy-relief medications often found in medicines that combine several ingredients to treat a variety of symptoms.

Last year in both Canada and the United States, companies pulled cough and cold medicines for babies and tots under two from the market.”

This may seem like a small point in health care. However, it has taken years and the dogged effort of many in the medical / health care field to reach this point. The main reason has been that cold medication for children translates into a significant income source. Therefore, this is not a small victory.
