Hacker at Carleton University Leaves School

As a consequence of exposing a flaw in the university security system, Mansour Moufid is leaving Carleton University:

“A Carleton University student has quit school after being hit with a fine and other sanctions for hacking into a university computer to steal identification and financial data from 32 student cards, then sending a report to the victims and the university detailing how he did it.

Mansour Moufid, 20, a second-year math student who used the alias Kasper Holmberg in his report, said he made his decision Thursday after receiving a letter from the university detailing his punishment.”

Mr Moufid may face criminal charges. Some in the university community considers Mr Moufid as a ‘whistle blower’ who exposed an unacceptable flaw in security. Obviously, Carleton University disagrees.

They should be praising him for that! Imagine if he hadn’t found it, and someone with different intention did! It’s called a ‘Proof of Concept’ And that school should be damn proud to have someone who cares that much about their school.

I’d leave too.

In a two-page letter delivered to Mr. Moufid yesterday and obtained by the Citizen, the university’s associate vice-president, Suzanne Blanchard, lists six sanctions imposed on Mr. Moufid for violating the school’s Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy.

One of the six sanctions requires Mr. Moufid to write a letter of apology to the 32 students whose accounts he accessed, the university and the university community, and it stipulates that the letter must include “that you lied about alerting the university before distribution (of the report).”

I can’t believe that the administrator Suzanne Blanchard is asking him in this letter to commit perjury, does any one know if it’s a crime to order to a student to deny the fact that he sent a report and if Mr.s Suzanne Blanchard sould be charged ?

Suzanne Blanchard did commit a crime it’s called :extortion of falses confessions and it’s very serious crime.
By demanding him to confess in something that he did not(i.e to deny the fact that he sent them a report)and threatening to expel him from the university if he does not, suzanne Blanchard is comitting an extortion,if I were his parents I would press charges against her.

What Do You Think?
