DNA science marches on in Israel and dog owners need to be aware:
“PETAH TIKVA, Israel (Reuters) - An Israeli city is using DNA analysis of dog droppings to reward and punish pet owners.
Under a six-month trial programme launched this week, the city of Petah Tikva, a suburb of Tel Aviv, is asking dog owners to take their animal to a municipal veterinarian, who then swabs its mouth and collects DNA.”

This is another story that makes you say “WTF!” Has all other crime in that city stopped so that they can now waste valuable resources on finding out who’s dog pooped on the sidewalk? Not to mention the cost of DNA analysis has to far outweigh the cost of cleaning up the crap. Also, are the citizens handing over their dog’s DNA voluntarily, and if so, how long til it’s mandatory?
