Time is money and it is so true in Michael Phelps’ case. In a historical achievement, Michael Phelps won his seventh Beijing gold medal. He won the 100 meter butterfly by the slimmest margin possible. Michael Phelps’ recorded time was 50.58; Milorad Cavic had a second place recorded time of 50.59. Michael Phelps won the gold medal by .01 of a second.
The swimwear company, Speedo, owes Michael Phelps one million dollars:
“…Four years ago, before the Athens Games, sponsor Speedo offered the U.S. swimmer the seven figure sum if he equalled compatriot Mark Spitz’s 1972 record of seven golds at a single Games.”
