That second piece of checked luggage just became much more expensive if you are a passenger with Delta Airlines. The fee has doubled:
“…Domestic passengers will now pay $50 US to check a second bag, up from $25 US. Fees for specialty items that require special handling, such as surfboards or ski equipment, also will increase on domestic and international flights, the airline said.”

There is some speculation that these fee increases are meant to discourage passengers from checking luggage. The additional space created on flights would be used to haul non passenger cargo.
As the airlines try to find ways to generate revenue, those who are travelling should check for new regulations at the carrier’s website. With the costs of fuel at record prices, undoubtedly there will be further costs to passengers. What was once a free service on Delta Airlines is now a hefty fifty dollars.
