Google and YouTube Sued for $779 Million

YouTube and Google are being sued for $779 million dollars. A lawsuit alleges that Google distributed proprietary material:

“…Mediaset alleges that it found at least 4,643 copies of its programming on YouTube on June 10, when it conducted a sample survey. That programming represents approximately 325 hours of material, Mediaset claims.

The media company, as a result, alleges that its three Italian television networks have lost nearly 315,700 viewer days, which, in turn, represents lost advertising opportunities for its television programs, Mediaset alleges.”

YouTube (and Google, its parent company) already has litigation from Viacom for copyright infringement. It has been Google’s policy to remove copyright material when it is brought to their attention. However, friendly notification to Google does not afford the opportunity to be awarded millions by the courts. And $779 million dollars garners loads of legal assistance.

Another one eh? I think that this will be tied up forever like the Viacom thing and until the verdict is near it’s not even worth taking about the details.

Thanks for letting us know about it though.
