An Efficient Text Editor - Free

EditPad Lite has the same efficiency as the paid version, EditPad Pro. For most text editing functions, this trim version of EditPad Pro is more than ample to handle the job. “EditPad Lite works with Windows NT4, 98, 2000, ME, XP and Vista.”

One thing that the Lite version does not have is an integrated spell checker. This is in the Pro version which has dictionaries in numerous languages. A spell checker for Internet Explorer users can be downloaded from ieSpell.
I recommend EditPad Lite without reservation. It is used almost daily on my laptop. EditPad Pro is on my desktop. The two programs are efficient and will find their way to your ‘must-have’ list. Best of all, the Lite version is free.

Catherine - Have you tried notepad++, Its chock full of goodies, I work with several different file types and have yet to find a file i couldn’t open and that it didn’t provide formatting for. Looking at the editpad pro features, I’d say it’s comparable to that. It does include the spell checker and has a number of plugins available for it. I think it’s also available in several languages. You might want to try it out on the laptop. The search find/replace features are excellent and it has a small footprint. I think the download is a little over 2 meg. Best of all, like editpad lite. it’s free!
