Windows XP SP3 and Continuous Reboots

One of the problems that some XP users are reporting is a reboot problem with SP3. This had been a pre-release problem mentioned on help forums and now the problem seems to be continuing. Chloe Albanesius is reporting a quote from Jesper Johansson which attempts to explain the problem:

“…”At this point, I want to clarify that the endless rebooting is not at all related to SP3 per se,” Johansson wrote. “The problem is that with some configurations, SP3 causes the computer to crash during boot, and Windows XP, by default, is set up to automatically reboot when it crashes. That is why you end up in the endless rebooting scenario.”

Johansson offers a detailed work around on his blog.”

Some experts from Spywareinfo and myself have tried to contact Microsoft. Unfortunately, at the close of the business day on May 9, 2008, there is no reply. So, if you are having stability issues with your machine and you are experiencing multiple reboots, just know that you are not alone.
