Data Breach: Bank Server Missing
It is not unusual to find daily news items of laptops that have gone missing or jump drives that are lost. However, it is not every day that a bank reports the loss of a server:
“The loss of a computer server from a Kwun Tong branch of Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation could lead to the leakage of private data of 159,000 customers.”

It seems that the data were encrypted. “Internet Society chairman Charles Mok Nai-kwong said even though the server has been encrypted, there may still be ways to access the data.” Handling a data breach with such statements is not a great way to reassure anxious banking customers.
