A Victory for Internet Privacy in the New Jersey Supreme Court

It is a decided victory for internet privacy. It may be a ruling that sets a legal precedent:

“Internet service providers must safeguard personal information about users in New Jersey _ even when the police ask for it _ the state Supreme Court ruled Monday.”

link: Court finds users can expect privacy from Internet providers

There will be government agency and policing authorities who will perceive this ruling as counter to security interests. The New Jersey Supreme Court has recognized that internet users do have the expectation of privacy. It is a ruling that is a small step in narrow the gap between legislation / judicial opinion and the advancement of technology. In New Jersey, the Supreme Court has recognized that privacy does matter on the internet.
