Staggering Beer Tax Proposed

An enormous jump in the beer tax has been introduced as possible legislation in California. Assemblyman Jim Beall would like to raise the taxes significantly:
“…The San Jose Democrat on Thursday proposed raising the beer tax by $1.80 per six-pack, or 30 cents per can or bottle. The current tax is 2 cents per can. That’s an increase of about 1,500 percent.”

It is bewildering whether such a proposal has had any serious research. If just some initial inquiry had been done, Mr. Beall would realize that this would be devastating to the brewers in his state. Perhaps the national / international conglomerates would be able to survive but the local state companies would be ruined. Further, there would be an immediate negative impact on the agricultural sector. Some farm would be destroyed, along with the communities that these agricultural enterprises support.
No matter how well intended, this proposal in numbing in its lack of forethought.

Say it ain’t so…once one State starts the others are sure to jump on that bandwagon knowing most people will pay…
This country is tax happy and, quite frankly, we probably would have been in the same position if England had taken over this country way back when. The whole point of the revolution was excessive taxation and taxation without representation YET both of this is rampant in this country now..what the hell!!
I think all those increasing taxes must have British relatives–their way of winning the American revolution hundreds of years later…
