Michael Sheridan, Skittles Candy, and School Suspension

New Haven, Connecticut is not a place to buy candy from a fellow student. Even if one is a good student, buying candy can lead to a school suspension and having one’s name splashed across the news pages:
“NEW HAVEN, Connecticut (AP) — Contraband candy has led to big trouble for an eighth-grade honors student in Connecticut.
Michael Sheridan was stripped of his title as class vice president, barred from attending an honors student dinner and suspended for a day after buying a bag of Skittles from a classmate.”

Let this be a lesson to you, Michael. Surely you must have be given the school district policy manual, reviewed all important school district procedures and read all the fine print. Perhaps now your name will be on national / international security data bases. Try explaining this when you need to go through security and try to board an aircraft. Where is the Skittles legal team when you need them?

You really have to wonder at the mentality of the people who make these rules - God only knows what would have happened if he were found smoking behind the bike sheds.
There are enough problems in schools without looking for that illicit trade - of candy swapping!!

The school has backed off on the punishment and restored the student to his student council office.
I wonder how many irate phone calls and e-mails that school district endured in the last few days once this went national?
