Funds Available for Innovation from The Bill And Melinda Gates Foundation

Contrary to recent trends where funding is scarce, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is calling for new ideas:

“…The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has set aside $100 million US to encourage innovation in global health research, offering grants to those with innovative ideas on four topics: tuberculosis, HIV, infectious diseases and drug resistance.”

This is wonderful news to medical researchers. The hundred million dollar funding, at first impression, seems like an significant amount. However, as granting proceeds, even this sizable amount will be strained. It would be ideal if other philanthropic organizations could contribute in a unified effort.
