Dogs Don’t Lie

Have you ever been startled when your calm, resting dog suddenly springs into activity, with barks and more barks? You may not have heard a thing. Nothing seems to be out of the ordinary to you. However, your dog has superior hearing - far exceeding the human range. And, of course, the dog’s nose is far superior than what humans can experience. With these abilities, your canine pal is alerting its pack, even if the pack is just you.

And keep in mind that dogs don’t lie.

Taking into account the dog’s superior senses and different way of perceiving the world, it may be understandable that there is something that it finds alarming. However, there is another mystery. Have you ever introduced your dog to someone whom your dog does not like?

The person may have not done anything to garner such a cold reception from your dog. The person may be trying to be friends with the dog. The dog simply is not its normal, friendly self. The dog keeps its distance and views this person with suspicion. Over time - perhaps years - you may find that the dog’s initial impression was correct. (The dog usually is correct.) We humans may not have listened but the dog knew. The ‘how-did-the-dog-know’ is the mystery. Somehow, the dog knew/sensed something about this person and expressed it clearly. The dog knew and told you.

Sometime we forget… dogs don’t lie.
