Six Million Dollars and Privacy

It seems that Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony are now parents of twins. And these twins have earned more money for their parents that you and I could earn in a lifetime. Or two lifetimes. Or three lifetimes. Pictures of the babies have been sold:
“…Reports have estimated that People magazine is in talks with the star to buy rights to the first photographs of the baby boy and girl. It is rumoured that the celebrity magazine is willing to pay more than US$6m (£3m) for the pictures.”

These funds invested could become a significant amount when the babies reach eighteen years of age. It would mean no student loans for whatever university they wish to attend if they needed a job. With the sale of the photographs, though, the babies have become a profit center. And they have become public figures at a very early age. The parents cannot request privacy in the future. A precedent has been set. The children are public income earners - to the tune of six million dollars, just to start.

Wow! Just when you think you heard it all. Money is money but I can’t even imagine taking advantage of my own child or agreeing to give up their privacy or whatever the cost might be.
I know it’s easy to say when you aren’t faced with the choice or are in need of money but these people are wealthy beyond belief…do they really need the money that bad?
Is that the excuse they are using–we can put the money into investments or trusts for our children when they go to college…please…let’s not insult everyone by actually saying they are selling pictures of their children for money for the kid’s benefit…LOL!
My child trusts me and relies upon me for protection from situations they cannot protect themselves from. Family comes above all else–at least that’s the way I was raised.
Guess others can put aside their morals, values and beliefs at the drop of a hat when money is involved–I cannot. And we wonder why the general public is so materialistic, self-centered and apathetic to their fellow human beings.
Shame…have great life and good luck to her little ones, they’ll need it.
Peace!
