The San Antonio Spurs Trade for Kurt Thomas

Just before the trade deadline, the San Antonio Spurs have joined the trade frenzy. The Spurs have added Kurt Thomas:

“The San Antonio Spurs have added some frontline help, trading for Seattle Sonics forward/center Kurt Thomas.

Seattle will receive guard Brent Barry, center Francisco Elson and a 2009 first-round draft pick.”

With the L.A. Lakers, the Phoenix Suns and the Dallas Mavericks hoping to have improved by trades, the Spurs looked to improve on the front lines. Kurt Thomas will be a physical presence to counter Pau Gasol and Shaquille O’Neal. It seems that the Spurs’ assessment of the post season play is that it will be as much muscle as finesse. And there are still some hours left before the trade deadline settles the teams for the final run.
