One Spammer Sends 2.2 Billion Emails

There has been an arrest of a spammer in Japan who sent 2.2 billion spam messages. That is an astounding number.

Let’s do some calculation of what might have been possible. For the sake of ease, round numbers are used for this example. Assume that there were just two billion spam messages sent. If only one in a thousand people responded, that is a catchment pool of two million people. If there was a scheme to take just a dollar off each of those individuals, that is two million dollars. Even if half of the responders ‘contributed’ a dollar, that is a million dollars. It is unlikely that the target would be a lowly dollar.

You may not answer your spam. However, with these numbers, it just takes one responder in a thousand to keep the spammers trying.
